What can be re-used from a previous version of mpd?

I use Debian, and currently I have mpd ver 0.23.12 installed (it's the latest available in 'stable'). I also use mpc; there is no --version option with mpc, but from man mpc I may be using 0.34.

I am considering an upgrade as I've found the frequent crashes of mpd a distraction. I have a couple of questions re the upgrade:

1. Will I also need to upgrade mpc to achieve reasonable stability?
2. Can I re-use my mpd.conf file with a newer version of mpd - or should I trash that & start over? Currently, my mpd.conf looks like this:

music_directory         "/mnt/bluessd/music-mnt/primary"
auto_update             "yes"
db_file                 "~/.config/mpd/database"
audio_output {
        type            "pipewire"
        name            "PipeWire Sound Server"
}
input {
        plugin "curl"
}

Most any other advice would be welcomed as well,
