I have been using Xlibre since it's initial releases. I have never ran it with root privilege. I do not run a seatd. I do not run systemd. I do not run dbus. I do not run a logind. I do not even run pam.

What features do the Xenocara patches add, that I am presently missing?

I have been using Xlibre since it's initial releases. I have never ran it with root privilege.

Some HW configurations (eg. not running via KMS) still need root privileges for mapping framebuffer memory.
Haven't checked Xenecora patches yet, but I guess they're doing something like dropping privileges once video drivers are initialized.

In the longer run we perhaps should move to some external arbiter for those things (kind of userspace KMS) ?

I think Xlibre can use a _x11 user to drop privileges and perform privilege separation like Xenocara.
