Dear FDS Users,
I am working on radiation heat flux prediction from pool fires using FDS and would like clarification regarding the radiation modeling approach implemented in FDS.Specifically, I would like to know: What are the key references or documentation that describe in detail the radiation heat flux calculation methodology in FDS?
Are there published studies or FDS validation cases where radiation heat flux predictions from pool fires have been systematically evaluated?
For near-field locations (e.g., L/D ≈ 1–2), are there known limitations or recommended modeling practices in FDS for obtaining reliable radiation heat flux results?
If anyone can share relevant FDS documentation, validation studies, or literature specifically discussing the radiation solver and heat flux calculation in FDS, it would be very helpful for my research.

Google Scholar (and probably others) has a search tool that would let you find papers like this. Try it. Otherwise, look in the FDS Technical Reference Guide, Verification Guide, and Validation for more info and case studies.

However, I was specifically looking for peer-reviewed research papers where the radiation heat flux predictions from FDS have been discussed in detail or systematically evaluated (particularly for pool fire cases). While I am continuing to search through Google Scholar, I have not yet been able to identify many papers that focus explicitly on this aspect.
