renovating terraform variable defaults

What is your question?

New to renovate. I have terraform variables that often look like:

variable "operator_chart_version" {
  description = "The version of brupop to use"
  type        = string
  default     = "v1.0.0"
}

I'd like to be able to renovate the default values:

variable "operator_chart_version" {
  description = "The version of brupop to use"
  type        = string
  // renovate: datasource=github-releases depName=bottlerocket-os/bottlerocket-update-operator versioning=semver
  default     = "v1.0.0"
}

But I'm not entirely sure where to start. Do I need a regex manager on a match of variables.tf ?

yes, you need a regex manager.

We use it pretty much exactly like this:

customManagers: [

With this in the terraform code:
