Viper 2: status of pluggable provider support?

It has been some time since first ideas about Viper 2 habe been discussed. We have the need for adding sqlite as custom config backend on top of env and yaml/json. Use case is gradual migration from yaml-based to ui-based config. It would be great if this could be achieved in a pluggable way.

Any chance to get an update on status of Viper 2 and if such scenario would be doable?

I have also taken a look at #1144 and https://github.com/sagikazarmark/viperx. For easier integration it would be nice if I could use the same interface as env has- providing a value for a string key. viperx seems more complex in that it requires to return the entire config as json blob.
