Sidebar keeps periodically reverting to Large

I always set the sidebar to "tabs on top" as the only relevant option to me is "collection"

Sometimes, when opening , the sidebar is reverting to large icon down the the left hand side.

It would be nice to be able to permanetly remove parts of the sidebar that are not relevant. In my case, I just like the collection and the artwork window and don't use any of it. Hiding the sidebar is no soluton because then the collection is not viewable.
